As part of my work I try to bring people together so that we can all work smarter and more creatively. One way I can do this is inviting you to consider serving as a Director/Trustee on the board of Arts and Cultural organisations.

If you are interested in starting a conversation about working as a trustee with either of these two great organisations then please drop me a line at john@johnobrien.org and we can start the conversation from there. We’re looking forward to meeting you.

Tipperary Dance

The dlr Mill Theatre, Dundrum

In late 2008 Tipperary County Council, working in partnership with the Excel Arts Centre, appointed Jazmin Chiodi and Alexandre Iseli as Dance Artists in Residence at the Excel Arts Centre. This was a daring and courageous act on the part of the Local Authority and the Excel. At that time there was no tradition of contemporary dance in the region and no infrastructure to support its development.

Since then, Jazmin and Alex have transformed Tipperary into a Home for an International Community of Dancers, positioning the county as an international centre for the development of dance.

They have created the Tipperary Dance Festival, a unique, boutique festival attracting the very best of international dance artists to Tipperary every year. They have Presented 55 performances of original dance pieces from 12 countries including Argentina, Canada, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany and more.

They have worked with 2578 children from 38 schools in 25 towns across the county, and they have brought 59 dance teachers to 1831 people in Tipperary including 41 Community Classes and 39 Masterclasses and delivered by 43 international dancer/choreographers.

They have performed their own original work, created in Tipperary, 119 times in 13 countries. They have held 7 Symposia on Dance with 41 national and international contributors, 134 screenings of Dance Films, and hosted 99 dancers in 9 Laboratories.

Their work in Tipperary has been acknowledged by the European Dance Network as a case study in Best Practice for Relevance in the European dance sector, and in their work  was nominated for the National Age Friendly Ireland Recognition and Achievement Awards.

Tipperary Dance has created something unique in Tipperary, a home for dance that gives people time, space and support, transforming Tipperary into an international place of Dance.

In order to build on and consolidate these achievements, and protect both the investment and the legacy, Jazmin and Alex have established Tipperary Dance CLG (Company Limited by Guarantee).

We are putting in place a team of voluntary trustees to guide the work over the coming years, to protect and build on the investment to date, and to protect the legacy of the work to date. We are inviting people with a passion for dance, for community, for creative placemaking, to contact us and start a conversation that could reimagine Tipperary through dance.

The Mill Theatre sits at the creative heart of Dundrum and delivers a packed programme of local drama, touring productions, youth theatre, artist development, and a schools programme that connects with teachers and young people across the country. It has become a model of community practice, bringing together amateur passion and professional practice for the benefit and wellbeing of its communities.

Following three years of extraordinary growth in audience numbers, in engagement with community groups, young people and schools, of award nominations and an ever more packed and exciting programme of events, and following an intensive period of strategic review during 2021, the Mill is becoming one of the most ambitious and successful theatres in the country.

We have emerged from the pandemic stronger and more ambitious than ever. Our mission is to create a unique place of creativity, entertainment and education that brings together the creative passions of our many communities with the ambition and abilities of the finest professional, creative practitioners.

To do this to the very best of our ability we will be innovative in how and where we work, we will support our local artists both amateur and professional, we will continue to build our creative relationship with teachers, pupils and schools, and we will build a unique model of community ownership and collaboration, and a sustainable funding model.

We are inviting people to join us on this journey, and become voluntary directors of Mill Theatre Management CLG.

If you have a passion for creativity and drama, and a passion for creative placemaking, and you have experience in any one, or a combination of, these areas then please contact (who?)
